Emotions are a characteristic of mammals. We, humans, portray our emotions in some or the other forms, for that matter, every mammal does so (and so do birds, reptiles, and other animals). As soon as a mammal gives birth to an offspring, it needs its mother’s warmth and love. Nothing can replace that. There are a lot of experiments that have been conducted on various types of animals. It was found out that the offsprings that were taken away from their mother grew out to be asocial, angry, and depressed and the ones who grew with their mothers had no such problem.

The transition from a nomadic lifestyle to a settled lifestyle

After the Agricultural revolution, Homo sapiens began settling down at a place rather than spending their lives like nomads and pursuing hunting for a living. They hadn’t stopped using animals for their survival as they used to domesticate animals for their needs but the killings became less for obvious reasons. Life became sedentary.

The idea of poultry farming, animal slaughterhouse, and using animals for our needs has been with us for hundreds of years. This was not the case earlier. Not because humans at that time were considerate enough so that they allowed these helpless animals to breed and to be on their own but because they were worried about the consequences of domesticating these animals. In the early days, there was no such thing as medicines, vaccines, pesticides, and means of keeping the diseases away. Many of the epidemics that were caused in the earlier centuries had been because of animals so humans couldn’t risk their survival. But as medical sciences flourished and invented a solution to all these problems and humans started what they had always wanted to start i.e. using animals as their slaves.

Proving that human life is superior to all life forms

There were a lot of questions earlier on this too whether using and killing them is right or wrong, but they were shut down by religious scriptures. They argued that only the human body has a soul on this planet and animals have no soul, so it was justified to kill and use them according to our needs. Humans have been so shameless that they declared that only wild animals have a soul and domestic animals do not, simply because they don’t dare to use wild animals for their needs easily

The irony is that some religions symbolise their God as lamb and yet sacrifices that lamb as their offerings to God!

Humans are inhumane

Though now it has been proven that all animals have emotions but even then we haven’t stooped. Animals are kept in wired cages normally of the size a foot longer than the animal kept in. They are bred by artificial insemination and the offsprings are taken away from their mothers as soon as they are born. These animals have inherited genes that their ancestors acquired which want them to roam about freely, play with their kind, and get the love of their mother. Just as a human kid cannot survive on only food and needs emotional support for survival, so do these animals.

What does the future hold and should we worry?

Answering the question, should we worry? Of course, we should. With all these developments in the field of AI, Machine Learning, Data Sciences, Genetic Engineering we are not very far from creating a new tech-based specie. And what if these AI-based individuals start killing humans for their survival. You are thinking this would be unjust and wrong? Why is it when we can kill these animals thinking them to be inferior, the AI cannot kill us?
